Gigantic, lengthy — these are the wings of a beast. And they have their own field.
Bright orange and white, they lie side by side like soldiers in combat.
Their destiny is to fly high. Not just this — they will provide clean energy too.
They are the wind blades, waiting to be ferried across, soon to be installed high up on hills as windmills.
A Few Facts
The windfarms are a part of KREDL vision in the state of Karnataka.
- KREDL — Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited — was established in 1996 as Karnataka’s nodal agency for renewable energy.
- Karnataka’s first wind turbine is reported to have been installed in 1996 at Kappattagudda near Nagavi, Gadag.
- Wind turbines need suitable wind speed, elevation and geography; they cannot simply be installed anywhere.
- India’s experiments with harnessing wind energy go back to the 1950s.
- By the 1980s and 1990s, India was moving from experiments to commercial wind farms.
From old windmills to today’s enormous turbines, the idea remains the same — to turn the movement of air into useful energy.
